Play For Ray

To Our Amity Youth Boys Lacrosse Community:

As we officially kick-off our 2021 season, we want to remember our friend and teammate Raymond "Ray" Heenie, who would have been a member of our 8th grade boys lacrosse team this season. Ray was an integral member of our program and we know how much his presence on the field is missed.

This season we would like to invite all members of our lacrosse community to:

‘Play For Ray’

Helmet Stickers:

The 8th grade team has already received “Play for Ray” helmet stickers. The rest of the teams will be receiving Ray’s initials – RH – on a helmet sticker that should be placed on the back, right side of the helmet (if you’re looking at the back of the helmet).

The Walk To End Epilepsy:

The 8th grade team would like to ask all members of our Amity Youth Lacrosse community to attend this event- and this year AYL is a sponsor!

Please join us at High Plains Community Center on Saturday May 15th from 8:30a to 10:30a at The Walk To End Epilepsy! The event is FREE but walkers must complete the registration found here:

All Amity Lacrosse players should wear their jerseys!

First Annual ‘Play For Ray’ Award:

Beginning this season and each year after, the 8th grade coaches will be choosing a member of the 8th grade team to receive the ‘Play For Ray’ award. The recipient of this annual recognition will be the player who embodies team spirit: a player who always has a positive attitude, has ability to lift the team, and shows the utmost sportsmanship throughout the season.

Recipients of this honor will have a $250 donation made to the Epilepsy Foundation of Connecticut in their name as well as their name engraved on a league plaque.

We are excited to announce this year’s recipient at our end-of-season party on Tuesday June 15th!

The Epilepsy Foundation of Connecticut

For those unfamiliar with Ray’s circumstances, he passed suddenly as a result of an underlying seizure disorder. Please visit the following link for more information about SUDEP  - Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy and to learn more about The Epilepsy Foundation.

Meal Train

Lastly, we would like to remind our lacrosse families about our AYL meal train for Ray’s Mom, Marisol, and sister, Lauren. Please consider easing their day-to-day struggles by signing up via the following link: All of the details you need to make a contactless, convenient contribution can be found in the link.

Thank you for your continued support and for rallying around our 8th graders as they ‘Play For Ray!
